| After graduated from Gifu University,
Japan at
1994 I returned to my home university doing research and teaching. I am
responsible in giving lectures at undergraduate level which are: Basic Plant Pathology, Introductory of Plant
Bacteriology, Biological Control of Plant
Pathogens, Scientific Methods, and Special Topics in Plant Pathology. At
graduate school I am responsible in giving lectures of Advanced Plant
Bacteriology, Advanced Plant Pathology, Phylosophy of Research, Soil-borne
Plant Pathogens, Integrated Control of Plant Diseases, and Selected Topics
in Plant Pathology. Emphasizing on bacterial wilt of Solanaceous plants, I start to study the control of tomato bacterial wilt with an avirulent strain of Pseudomonas solanacearum (currently Ralstonia solanacearum). In 1996, I studied the biological control of cigar-tobacco bacterial wilt caused by R. solanacearum in North Sumatra. I got P. putida as a biocon agent of this pathogen. Control of the pathogen was simply conducted by dipping the root of seedlings for 20 minutes in the water suspension of P. putida. Due to the laboriously matter of the works, the control method has been developed. The biocon agent was successfully incorporated into the coated seed of tobacco. Currently I am doing research on the biocontrol of Lincat Disease of tobacco. Lincat disease is a complex disease caused by the combination of R. solanacearum and Meloidogyne incognita. Due to the complexity of the disease, I used Bacillus spp, Streptomyces spp, and fluorescent pseudomonads for controlling the pathogens. Preliminary studies indicated that combination of those three antagonist could suppress the development of lincat disease.
